‘Midas’ is the new track from rising South East London collective Monzanto Sound. They’re a band that pride themselves on their sonic storytelling, and in their own words, say of the track: “Much of the world is run by megalomaniacs who are seemingly never satisfied. As the story goes: Midas runs mad, is ridiculed and loses everything in the end. The song is as much a warning (or curse) as it is a lamentation.” Musically, they bring together jazz-laced funk rhythms and neo-soul vocals, and tie the whole thing together with pulsating nods toward trip-hop and the colourful textures of psychedelia.
